changedetection.io Hosting for Website Change Alerts

changedetection.io is an open-source tool that checks web pages on a schedule and tells you when something you care about changes: a price drops, an item is back in stock, a job is posted, a policy page is edited. Choose it with a plan, pay, and we build the VPS (KVM, NVMe, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) and install it in a few minutes. You get:

• changedetection.io 0.60.10 (Apache-2.0) on an HTTPS address like yourname-x7k2.devoster.app.
• A password on it from the first start. changedetection.io has no user accounts, only a password. The panel sets it before the app first starts, so it is never served without a login, and you reset it from the Devoster dashboard.
• A real Chrome browser for pages built with JavaScript, added automatically on plans with about 4 GB of RAM or more (Starter and up).
• Two example watches that changedetection.io adds on a fresh install, so you can see how a watch works. Delete them when you add your own.
• Dashboard controls to open the app, reset the password, restart, stop or start it, read its logs, run an update and connect your own domain.

The app is free; you pay only the VPS plan, with 10% off yearly. The server comes with full root, free nightly backups kept 3 days plus one snapshot, a dedicated IPv4, 1 Gbps with unlimited bandwidth and DDoS protection. Already have a Devoster VPS? Install changedetection.io on it from VPS Control, after a quick check of the OS, ports 80 and 443 and free disk, or reinstall the server with it; both are free. A "watch" is a URL plus rules about which part of the page matters. Watching a whole page alerts you about every rotating banner; narrowing it down is what makes alerts useful:

• Filters by CSS selector, XPath or JSONPath, so you follow one price, one table or one field of an API response.
• Price and restock detection for product pages, with alerts when an item is back in stock or crosses a price you set.
• Text triggers that only alert when certain words appear or disappear, and text to ignore.
• A history of every change with a side-by-side diff, plus a check interval per watch and tags to group them.

Be a polite visitor: check as often as you need, not as often as you can, and respect the terms of the sites you watch. Some sites block requests from data-center IP addresses; changedetection.io can send checks through a proxy you provide.

changedetection.io has two ways to load a page, and which one you get depends on the plan:

• Plain HTTP fetch, on every plan. Fast and light. It works for pages whose content is in the HTML the server sends: most shops, news sites, blogs, RSS and JSON APIs.
• A real Chrome browser, on Starter and up. Needed for pages that build their content with JavaScript after loading. It also enables the visual selector, where you click the part of the page to watch, and browser steps, such as accepting a cookie banner or logging in before the check.

Chrome is not added on Nano or Micro, because each page it renders takes 150–300 MB of memory. On Starter, Chrome starts for each check and none stay running in between; larger plans can render more pages at once. If you start small and later find a page needs Chrome, upgrade from the panel and the browser is added at the next update.

changedetection.io sends notifications through Apprise, which speaks to dozens of services with a single URL each:

• Push to your phone through your own ntfy server, or Pushover and similar apps.
• Chat: Telegram, Discord, Slack, Matrix, Microsoft Teams.
• Webhooks with a JSON body, to feed a change into your own automation, such as an n8n workflow.

Email notifications don't work on this install: they need an SMTP server, and outbound mail ports are blocked by default on Devoster VPS plans. If you need email, configure an external provider's SMTP relay in Apprise's mail URL and ask us to open its submission port.

For scripts, changedetection.io has a REST API to add and manage watches. Its key is under Settings › API.

Plain checks are cheap; Chrome is not. The plan decides how many checks run at once and whether JavaScript pages can be watched at all.

History and screenshots are kept on the VPS disk, so watches checked often for a long time slowly take space. You can upgrade from the panel later without reinstalling.

The password is set by the panel, which means it can't be changed or removed from changedetection.io's settings page. Reset it from the Devoster dashboard instead; the one shown there is always the one that works.

We test new changedetection.io versions and apply them in a maintenance hour you choose, or when you press Update now. A snapshot of the VPS is taken first, and if the app doesn't come back healthy the server is rolled back automatically. Your watches, history and notification settings carry over. Auto-update can be switched off.

changedetection.io is licensed under Apache-2.0, and Devoster isn't affiliated with the project. The server is unmanaged: you have full root, and its security, what you watch and how often are your responsibility. Nightly backups (3 days) cover the whole VPS.
