What you get with one-click Odoo Community

Odoo is a suite of business apps, from CRM and sales to invoicing, inventory and a website builder, that share one database. Its Community edition is open source. Choose it with a plan, pay, and we build the VPS (KVM, NVMe, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) and install it; the first start takes a few minutes while Odoo creates its database. You get:

    • Odoo 20.0 Community (LGPL-3) from the official image, with PostgreSQL 17. Community edition only: no Enterprise modules.
    • One database, no demo data, and your admin account already created. You log in with your Devoster account email and a generated password shown in the dashboard.
    • The database manager locked. Nobody can create, drop, back up or restore databases over the web, which removes a well-known risk on public Odoo servers.
    • Workers sized to your plan, following Odoo's deployment guidelines, and Odoo's usage reporting to its publisher-warranty server switched off.
    • An HTTPS address like yourname-x7k2.devoster.app, and dashboard controls to open the app, reset the admin password, restart, stop or start it, read its logs, run an update and connect your own domain.

The app is free; you pay only the VPS plan, with 10% off yearly, and no per-user fee. The server comes with full root, free nightly backups kept 3 days plus one snapshot, a dedicated IPv4, 1 Gbps with unlimited bandwidth and DDoS protection. Already have a Devoster VPS? Install Odoo on it from VPS Control, after a quick check of the OS, ports 80 and 443 and free disk, or reinstall the server with it; both are free. Other apps that install this way are on the One-Click Apps page.

Which Odoo apps you can install

A fresh Odoo starts nearly empty. You open the Apps menu and install what your business uses; each app adds its menus and connects to the others:

    • CRM for leads and a sales pipeline
    • Sales for quotations and orders
    • Invoicing for customer invoices and payments
    • Website to build a site on the same address
    • Inventory, Purchase, Project, Employees and other Community apps

About the Apps list: Odoo also shows Enterprise apps there, with links to upgrade. Those need a paid Enterprise subscription from Odoo and can't be installed on Community. The full Accounting app and Studio are examples; Community's Invoicing covers invoices and payments.

Community modules from third parties, such as those from the Odoo Community Association (OCA), go in /opt/devoster/data/odoo/addons. Copy them in over SSH, restart the app and update the apps list in developer mode. Check that a module supports version 20.0 before you install it.

How much VPS does Odoo need?

Odoo serves requests with worker processes, and the install sets their number from the plan: Odoo's own guideline of twice the CPU count plus one, limited by memory. That works out to about 3 workers on Micro, 5 on Starter and 7 on Basic. Odoo's deployment guide estimates roughly six concurrent users per worker.

    Your usePlanWhy
Trying Odoo, one or two people, a few appsMicro (1 vCPU / 2 GB)The smallest plan it is offered on. It runs, with little headroom for reports and imports.
A small business using it every dayStarter (2 vCPU / 4 GB)More workers, a second scheduled-job thread and room for PostgreSQL.
More users, Website and Inventory together, big importsBasic (3 vCPU / 6 GB)A third core and more workers for concurrent use.

You can upgrade from the panel later; the worker count follows the new plan with the next update. Large reports and module installs run inside one request, so the install allows them more time than Odoo's defaults.

Sending quotes, invoices and invitations by email

Odoo sends a lot by email: quotations, invoices, user invitations, password resets. Outbound mail ports are blocked by default on Devoster VPS plans and no mail server is set up, so until you configure one:

    • Send documents yourself. Quotations and invoices can be printed or downloaded as PDF and sent from your own mailbox.
    • Add users without the invitation email. Create the user, set a password for them as admin, and tell them how to log in.

To have Odoo send email itself, add your email provider's SMTP server under Odoo's outgoing mail server settings and ask us to open its submission port; it is opened on request after approval. Use a provider that lets you set up SPF and DKIM for your domain, or your invoices will land in spam.

    Updates, version upgrades and backups

Within 20.0, updates are managed. We test new builds of the 20.0 series and apply them in a maintenance hour you choose, or when you press Update now. A snapshot of the VPS is taken first, the installed modules are updated, and if Odoo doesn't come back healthy the server is rolled back automatically. Auto-update can be switched off.

A new major version is a migration, not an update. Moving from 20.0 to the next major release changes the database structure, and that migration isn't automatic. Odoo's own upgrade service is aimed at Enterprise subscriptions; for Community databases the usual route is the OCA's OpenUpgrade project, tested on a copy first.

Backups. Nightly backups (3 days) cover the whole VPS. Because the web database manager is locked, take your own extra copies over SSH: docker compose exec db pg_dump -U odoo odoo from /opt/devoster/app, plus the file store in /opt/devoster/data/odoo/data.

Licence, trademarks and what stays your responsibility

Odoo Community is licensed under the LGPL-3. Odoo is a trademark of Odoo S.A.; Devoster is not an Odoo partner and isn't affiliated with Odoo S.A. This page describes the open-source Community edition as published by Odoo.

The server is unmanaged: you have full root, and its security, your users and your business data are your responsibility. We don't help configure Odoo's apps, your chart of accounts or your country's tax rules; Odoo's documentation and community cover that, and for accounting compliance talk to your accountant.

When is this the wrong choice? If you need Enterprise apps such as full Accounting or Studio, or Odoo's own support, you need an Enterprise subscription from Odoo. If you only need a CRM, a lighter tool such as Twenty may suit you better.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Odoo Community and the one-click install are free. You pay only the VPS plan: from $4.49/mo on Micro, with Starter at $7.99/mo recommended, and 10% off yearly. There is no per-user fee.

Community only, the LGPL-3 edition from Odoo's official image. Enterprise modules aren't included, and the Enterprise apps shown in the Apps list need a paid subscription from Odoo.

All Community apps, installed from the Apps menu when you need them: CRM, Sales, Invoicing, Website, Inventory, Purchase, Project, Employees and more. A fresh database starts with none installed.

No. The install runs one database and locks the web database manager, so nobody can create, drop or restore databases from the browser. That removes a well-known risk on public Odoo servers.

Outbound mail ports are blocked by default and no mail server is configured. Add your provider's SMTP server in Odoo and ask us to open its submission port; until then, send PDFs yourself.

Not automatically. Updates stay within the 20.0 series. A new major version needs a database migration, which for Community usually means the OCA's OpenUpgrade project, tested on a copy first.

Yes. Copy them into /opt/devoster/data/odoo/addons over SSH, restart the app, update the apps list in developer mode and install them. Make sure each module supports version 20.0.

Use Reset password in the Devoster dashboard. It sets a new password for the admin account and also turns off two-factor authentication on it, so you can log in again with your email.
