What you get with one-click Baserow

Baserow is a no-code database: tables that feel like a spreadsheet but behave like a database, with typed fields, links between tables and an API. It is often chosen as an open-source alternative to Airtable. Choose it with a plan, pay, and we build the VPS (KVM, NVMe, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) and install it; the first start takes about five minutes while Baserow prepares its database and templates. You get:

    • Baserow 2.4.1 from the official all-in-one image, with its own PostgreSQL and Redis inside, running only the MIT-licensed open-source edition (more on that below).
    • Your admin account ready. You log in with your Devoster account email and a generated password shown in the Devoster dashboard, and your account is the instance admin.
    • Sign-up closed before the address goes public. Strangers can't create accounts; people join only through an invitation to one of your workspaces.
    • An HTTPS address like tables-k3x9a2.devoster.app with a Let's Encrypt certificate. Addresses start with tables- rather than the product name.
    • Dashboard controls to open Baserow, reset the admin password, restart, stop or start it, read its logs, run an update and connect your own domain.

The app is free; you pay only the VPS plan, with 10% off yearly, and no per-seat fee however many people you invite. The server comes with full root, free nightly backups kept 3 days plus one snapshot, a dedicated IPv4 and DDoS protection. Already have a Devoster VPS? You can install Baserow on it from VPS Control, after the panel checks the OS, free ports 80/443 and disk, or reinstall the server with it, at no charge. Other apps that install this way are on the One-Click Apps page.

The open-source edition: what's in and what isn't

Baserow's official image contains two kinds of code: the open-source edition under the MIT licence, and Premium and Enterprise features under Baserow's commercial licence, which needs a paid subscription. This install runs only the open-source edition. That gives you:

    • Databases and tables with typed fields: text, numbers, dates, single and multiple select, files, links to other tables, lookups, rollups and formulas.
    • Grid, gallery and form views, with filters and sorting. Forms can be shared publicly to collect data.
    • Real-time collaboration: several people editing the same table see each other's changes.
    • A REST API with documentation generated for each of your databases, database tokens, and webhooks that call your own URLs when rows change.
    • Import from CSV files or by pasting from a spreadsheet.

What isn't available: paid features such as the Kanban and calendar views or row comments. Their menu items may still appear in the interface, but they do nothing here, and a paid Baserow licence can't be activated on this install. If you need those features, Baserow sells them as its own hosted or self-hosted plans.

    Inviting people without email

Outbound mail ports are blocked by default on Devoster VPS plans, and the install configures no mail server, so Baserow writes its emails to its log instead of sending them. Inviting a colleague still works:

    • Invite them to a workspace by email address in Baserow, with the role you want.
    • Find the invitation link in the app's logs, which you can open from the Devoster dashboard. Copy the link and send it to them yourself.
    • They open it and create their account. Without an invitation, sign-up is refused.

The same applies to Baserow's other emails, such as notifications. Baserow takes its SMTP settings from its server configuration rather than its web interface, and this install leaves them unset, so the logs are the way to get these links.

How much VPS does Baserow need?

Baserow runs its web server, API, background workers, PostgreSQL and Redis together, and each API worker is a full Python process. The install sizes the workers to the plan.

    Your usePlanWhy
Trying Baserow, one person, small tablesMicro (1 vCPU / 2 GB)The smallest plan it is offered on. One API worker and Baserow's low-memory mode, with one combined background worker.
A team using it every dayStarter (2 vCPU / 4 GB)Two API workers and a full background worker, so imports and exports don't slow everyone down.
Larger tables, more people, heavy API useBasic (3 vCPU / 6 GB)A third core and more memory for PostgreSQL.

You can upgrade from the panel later; on 8 GB plans and above the install runs three API workers and two background workers.

    Connecting Baserow to other tools

Each database in Baserow gets its own generated API documentation, showing the exact endpoints and field names for your tables. Create a database token in your settings, give it the permissions it needs, and any script or app can read and write rows over HTTPS.

    • Automation: n8n has a Baserow node, so you can move rows between Baserow and hundreds of other services without code.
    • Webhooks: Baserow can call a URL when rows are created, updated or deleted, which is how you trigger a workflow the moment data changes.
    • Your own domain: Baserow works from one address at a time. Connect your domain from the dashboard before you share forms or hand out API URLs; once it is verified, the devoster.app address redirects to it.

Updates, backups and what stays your responsibility

Updates: we check new Baserow versions and apply them in a maintenance hour you choose, or when you press Update now. A snapshot of the VPS is taken first, and if Baserow doesn't come back healthy the server is rolled back automatically.

Locked out? Reset password in the Devoster dashboard sets a new password for the instance admin; sessions and tokens issued to that account before the reset stop working.

Backups: nightly backups (3 days) and your snapshot slot cover the whole VPS. For your own copies, you can export tables and views to CSV from Baserow.

The server is unmanaged: you have full root, and its security and your data are your responsibility. Our VPS hardening checklist covers SSH keys and the firewall. Baserow is a trademark of its developers; Devoster isn't affiliated with Baserow or endorsed by it, and this is not Baserow's hosted service.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Baserow's open-source edition and the one-click install are free. You pay only the VPS plan: from $4.49/mo on Micro, with Starter at $7.99/mo recommended, and 10% off yearly. There is no per-seat fee.

No. This install runs only the MIT open-source edition; the Premium and Enterprise code isn't loaded, so a paid licence can't be activated and premium menu items do nothing.

No. Kanban and calendar views are paid Baserow features. The open-source edition has grid, gallery and form views.

Invite their email to a workspace, then open the app's logs from the Devoster dashboard, copy the invitation link Baserow wrote there and send it to them yourself.

For tables, links, formulas, forms and an API, yes, and your data stays on your server with no per-seat fee. Some views and features Airtable users expect are paid in Baserow and not in this edition, so check that the open-source features cover your use.

Yes, through the REST API with a database token, or with webhooks that fire when rows change. Automation tools such as n8n have a Baserow integration.

New sign-ups are switched off so strangers who find the address can't create accounts. Only people invited to one of your workspaces can register.

Use Reset password in the Devoster dashboard. It sets a new password for the instance admin and invalidates sessions and tokens issued before the reset.
