What you get with one-click Open-source ERP

Our Open-source ERP is a full business system on your own server: books, sales, purchasing, stock and production in one database. The software installed is ERPNext (GPL-3) on the Frappe framework (MIT), from the official Frappe container images. Choose it with a plan, pay, and we build the VPS (KVM, NVMe, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) and install it; the first install takes about eight minutes while the database is created. You get:

    • ERPNext v16.53.0 with MariaDB 11.8, Redis, background workers, the scheduler and the real-time server, ready on one site with no demo data.
    • Your admin account ready. You log in with your Devoster account email and a generated password shown in the Devoster dashboard; the account has the System Manager role. The built-in Administrator account gets the same password.
    • Website sign-up switched off. It is on in a fresh install, which would let a stranger create an account; here only users you create can log in.
    • Usage telemetry and in-app update notices off. Updates come from the Devoster panel instead.
    • An HTTPS address like erp-k3x9a2.devoster.app, and dashboard controls to open the app, reset the admin password, restart, stop or start it, read its logs, run an update and connect your own domain.

The app is free; you pay only the VPS plan, with 10% off yearly, and no per-user fee. The server comes with full root, free nightly backups kept 3 days plus one snapshot, a dedicated IPv4 and DDoS protection. Already have a Devoster VPS? You can install it on that server from VPS Control, after the panel checks the OS, free ports 80/443 and disk, or reinstall the server with it, at no charge. Other apps that install this way are on the One-Click Apps page.

    First login: the setup wizard

The install deliberately leaves your business details to you. The first time you log in, ERPNext's setup wizard asks for:

    • Your company name and abbreviation,
    • Country, currency and time zone, which set number formats and defaults,
    • The fiscal year, and a chart of accounts to start from.

Take a few minutes over these: the company, currency and chart of accounts are hard to change once you have posted transactions. If you aren't sure, run through the wizard with test data first, then reinstall the server with the app from VPS Control and do it for real. Nobody without an account can reach the wizard, and with sign-up off nobody can get an account but the ones you create.

What's included, adding users, and email

The installed ERPNext covers accounting (invoices, payments, bank reconciliation, financial reports), selling and buying (quotations, orders, delivery notes, receipts), stock with warehouses, manufacturing with bills of materials and work orders, and projects with tasks and timesheets.

HR and payroll aren't included. Since version 14 they live in Frappe HR, a separate app that this install doesn't add; you will find employee records, but not leave, attendance or payroll.

Adding users: create them in the desk under Users, give each the roles they need (Accounts User, Sales User, Stock User and so on), and set a password for them there. Outbound mail ports are blocked by default on Devoster VPS plans and no mail account is configured, so no welcome email goes out; tell them how to log in yourself.

Sending invoices by email: until mail is set up, print or download documents as PDF and send them from your own mailbox. To have the system send email itself, add an outgoing email account with your provider's SMTP server and ask us to open its submission port; it is opened on request after approval.

How much VPS does an ERP need?

The install runs MariaDB, two Redis instances, web workers, background workers, a scheduler and the real-time server together, and sizes them to the plan. Web workers follow Frappe's guideline of twice the CPU count plus one, limited by memory: about 3 on Micro, 5 on Starter and 7 on Basic.

    Your usePlanWhy
Trying it, one or two peopleMicro (1 vCPU / 2 GB)The smallest plan it is offered on. One background worker serves every queue and the database cache is small.
A small business using it every dayStarter (2 vCPU / 4 GB)More web workers, a separate worker for long jobs and a larger database cache.
More users, manufacturing, big imports and reportsBasic (3 vCPU / 6 GB)A third core and more workers for concurrent use.

You can upgrade from the panel later; the worker counts follow the new plan with the next update.

    Updates and backups

Updates: we check new releases and apply them in a maintenance hour you choose, or when you press Update now. A snapshot of the VPS is taken first; when the new release needs it, the install runs ERPNext's database migration (bench migrate) for you, and if the app doesn't come back healthy the server is rolled back automatically.

Locked out? Reset password in the Devoster dashboard sets a new password for your admin account and for Administrator, and signs out their sessions.

Backups: nightly backups (3 days) cover the whole VPS. Business records deserve more, so also take ERPNext's own backups over SSH: from /opt/devoster/app, run docker compose -p devoster-app exec backend bench --site frontend backup --with-files. The files land in /opt/devoster/data/erpnext/sites/frontend/private/backups; copy them off the server.

Licence, trademarks and what stays your responsibility

ERPNext is licensed under the GPL-3 and the Frappe framework under the MIT licence. ERPNext is a trademark of Frappe Technologies; Devoster is not affiliated with Frappe Technologies, and this is not Frappe Cloud. We sell this app as Open-source ERP, and its addresses start with erp-.

The server is unmanaged: you have full root, and its security, your users and your business data are your responsibility. We install and update the software, but we don't configure your accounts, taxes or workflows; ERPNext's documentation and forum cover that, and for accounting compliance talk to your accountant.

Comparing options? Odoo Community is the other open-source suite we offer, built around installable apps. If you only need a CRM, Twenty is lighter.
