What you get with the Bedrock server
Pick Minecraft: Bedrock Edition as the game of our Game Server, choose a plan, accept Mojang's EULA at checkout (a checkbox linking to minecraft.net/eula), and pay. We build the VPS (KVM, NVMe, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS); about six minutes after boot the panel is ready and the server downloads the latest Bedrock Dedicated Server from Mojang and starts. You get:
- A Bedrock Dedicated Server named "My Bedrock Server", in survival on easy, with online mode on, restarted automatically after a crash.
- Pterodactyl, an open-source (MIT) web panel, at an HTTPS address like
game-k3x9q2.devoster.app, with a console, file manager, SFTP on port 2022, two backup slots and schedules. You are its admin and log in with your email and a generated password shown in the Devoster dashboard. - Port 19132 open to players on your dedicated IPv4 address, for both UDP and TCP, which newer Bedrock versions use.
The software is free; you pay only the VPS plan, with 10% off yearly. The server comes with full root, free nightly backups kept 3 days plus one snapshot, 1 Gbps with unlimited bandwidth and network-level DDoS protection from the datacenter. Already have a Devoster VPS? You can reinstall it with the Game Server from VPS Control at no charge. Other apps are on the One-Click Apps page.
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
How players join a Bedrock server
- On Windows, iOS and Android: Play, then Servers, then Add Server. Enter your server's IP address (or its
devoster.appaddress) and port 19132. - A Microsoft account: online mode is on, so every player signs in with their Microsoft account, as Bedrock asks for online play anyway. That also makes the allow list and bans work by player.
- Consoles: on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch the game only lists its featured servers and has no Add Server button, so console players can't type in your address. Third-party workarounds exist, but they aren't ours and we can't support them. If your group plays mostly on consoles, keep that in mind before you buy.
- Java Edition players can't join a Bedrock server. For them, see the Minecraft Java server, or run a Java server next to this one on the same VPS.
How many players per plan?
The plan's RAM is fixed for the game and never reclaimed by the host. About 768 MB stays with the panel and Ubuntu; the rest is the server's memory limit.
| Plan | Memory for the game (approx.) | Players (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Micro (1 vCPU / 2 GB / 50 GB) | About 1 GB | A small group of friends |
| Starter (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 75 GB) | About 3 GB | About 10. Recommended. |
| Basic (3 vCPU / 6 GB / 100 GB) | About 5 GB | More headroom for a larger world, add-ons or a second game |
These are estimates, not guarantees: view distance, redstone, many mobs and add-ons all cost more. If you lower the view distance in server.properties, the same plan carries more players. After upgrading your plan, raise the server's memory in the panel's admin area.
Settings, the allow list and operators
The common settings are fields in the server's Startup tab, applied on the next start: the server name, game mode (survival, creative or adventure), difficulty, cheats and the Bedrock version.
- The allow list is off by default, so anyone with your address can join. To keep the server to your friends, set
ALLOW_LISTtotruein the Startup tab, restart, and add each player from the console withallowlist add <name>. - Operators:
op <name>in the console gives a player operator rights in the game. - Other settings such as view distance and the world seed are in
server.propertiesin the file manager. - Add-ons: behavior and resource packs can be uploaded through the file manager or SFTP and then enabled for the world.
- An existing world: upload its folder into
worlds/over SFTP and setlevel-nameto match.
Updates, restarts and backups
Game versions: Bedrock players' apps update quickly, and an older server turns them away. The server installs the latest version when it is created; when Mojang ships a new one, back the server up and use Reinstall Server in its Settings tab. The installer fetches the latest version again and keeps your server.properties, permissions, allow list and worlds.
Daily restart: the server restarts early each morning after a five-minute warning in the game chat. Change or switch it off in the Schedules tab.
Backups: two backup slots in the panel, kept on the VPS, so download the ones that matter now and then. Nightly VPS backups (kept 3 days) and your snapshot cover the whole server. The panel itself is updated by us in a maintenance hour you choose, with a snapshot first and an automatic rollback.
Mojang's EULA and friends in the panel
Every Minecraft server runs under Mojang's End User License Agreement. You accept it yourself at checkout, with a checkbox that links to minecraft.net/eula, and only then is the server created. Please read it: among other things it sets out what you may charge players for. The server and its world are yours to run; Devoster provides the VPS and the install, not the game.
To let a friend help run the server, create their account in the panel's admin area with a password you give them (the panel can't send email, because outbound mail is blocked on our VPSes), then add them from the server's Users tab with the permissions they need.
